Chimei, situated
in the southernmost island of Penghu archipelagoes and
enriched in plentiful of natural resources and artificial
sceneries, is a good choice for the tourists to travel. It
is different from other islands in Pengfu, the feature is as
the followings:
I. Natural Resources
A. Basalt Coast topography:
The tourists could see the landscapes of special Basalt
Coast topography from Dawan along with the east coast to the
northwest coast. The scenery along the bank is so special
that the other islets could not to compare with. (The nature
treasury in Chimei)
B. Leucaena Glauca (L.) Benth and Lantana Camara are main
plants in Pengfu
Leucaena glauca (L.) Benth was found in the period under
Japanese Government, it is a plant fitting the environment
and growing with strong vitality in Pengfu. At first, the
villagers used it as the dry wood for cooking. Afterwards,
cooking with fuel gas is getting more and more common,
people did not cook with stove anymore. As a result, the
scenery of bright green Leucaena glauca (L.) Benth is
everywhere in Summer. The square measure it covered is the
largest in Pengfu. Lantana Camara brought into Chimei by the
excrements of migratory birds recently, is the second wild
plant in Pengfu.
II. Artificial Sceneries
A. Basalt Enclosure in Both Sides of the Road
The Township Government requested local master craftsmen to
lay basalt bricks on both waysides. This showed the
particularity of Chimei roads and revealed the neatness of
the streets.
B. The Stone Manufacturing Plant and relics in prehistory
period
Nearly, Zangzhenhua and his partners discovered the remains
of Nangang ancient culture - ¡§the earthenwares with band
lines¡¨ which belonged to the period about 4500 years ago at
the distance about 250 meters from the Tomb of Seven
Beauties northeastward and sequentially detected three relic
locations of ¡§Stone Manufacturing Plant¡¨ in 1983 and 2000:
Nangang, Donghu and Xibeiwan Stone Manufacturing Plant. This
discovery made Chimei an important role on the prehistory of
Taiwan.
C. The hometown of the captains of ocean-going vessels
Most of the villagers in Chimei moved to Kaohsiung and
devoted themselves to pelagic fishing. Some of them are
basic sailors, some are mates, some are engineers and others
are captains in the ship. Presently, most captains of
ocean-going vessels are from Pengfu, especially from Chimei.
D. Small-abalones Cultivating Island
Mr. Luqizong has cultivated small-abalones Since 1981 and
established thirteen farms continually from then. The
small-abalones are not only provided to some restaurants in
Makung but also to Taiwan. Except fishing, cultivating
small-abalones has beome another property in Chimei. It kept
off the outflow the population and prompted the local
development. |

has been named ¡§Nan-da-yu¡¨, ¡§Nan-yu¡¨, ¡¨da-yu¡¨, ¡§Nan-tian-yu¡¨,
¡§Da-yu-ao¡¨, and ¡§Da-yu-she¡¨. The developments of its history
and the transformation of its names could be divided into
several parts.
i. The period of Ching Dynasty:
A. In the 24th years of Kang-xi (1685), Chimei was named ¡§Da-yu¡¨.

the ¡§Da-yu-she¡¨ of
Wang-an-ao.

C. In the 9th year of Dazheng (1920), it was renamed ¡§ Dayu¡¨
and was subordinated to Wangan Village, Pengfu County,
Kaohsiung State¡¨.
D. In the 15th year of Dazheng (1926), it was under the

Township¡¨ to ¡§Chimei Township¡¨ to recall the memory of the
chastity and moral integrity and the touching affairs of the
seven beauties while he was visiting Dayu. He invited local
powerful men to discuss and then sent in to the province
government for approval. Till now, the name ¡§Chimei
Township¡¨ is still continue using.
C. In the 40th year of R.O.C., the government divided the
original three villages into six villages: Donghu, Xihu,
Zhonghe, Pinghe, Nangang, and Haifeng and remained unchanged

According to the legend, the first group of villagers in
Chimei Island were moved from Fukien and Zhejiang Provinces
in the period of Mingtaizu. However, they were compelled to
move back to Mainland China while the government abolished
Pengfu Patrol Office. From then, Chimei has become a place
for Japanese pirates and freebooters to stay. Up to the
period between Ming and Ching Dynasties, there were second
group villagers moved here. The Xia Family lived in the
hill-top of Zhonghe Village came here in that period
reportedly. Afterward, Chen, Lu, Xu, Zhang and Yan Families
continually moved to Chimei Township.
Nearly, Zangzhenhua and his partners discovered the remains
of Nangang ancient culture - ¡§the earthenwares with band
