1.Summary
Description of the Basalt pillar joints in Cimei Township
Cimei Islet is a segmented square mountain islet. The land is roughly flat, and successively stretches down from east to west. There are steep cliffs along east coast. The height above sea level is about 66 meters, more than 30 meters in the midland, and down to more than 10 meters when it comes to west coast, just like an inclined tableland.
The coasts around island are all coastal terrain. From south coast to east coast, stretching to bays, capes, wave erosion platform, wave erosion cavity of northwest coast is the place with most beautiful landscape of Cimei along terrain.
2. Brief introduction of basalt pillar joints
The distribution of basalt pillar joints is from Great bay on the south and north of Moon carp bay to Niumu level ground on the east, Northeast Bay and Northwest Bay where all have spectacular basalt terrain. The basalt pillar joints terrain on the south and east almost connect to the sea forming a lot of wave erosion cavity landscape. Generally, people can not look into the landscape along the coast for it¡¦s real appearance. It can only be seen by boats or swimming by. As for the basalt pillar joints terrain distributed from the area of Northeast Bay to Northwest Bay, they are all away from the coast distantly separated from the waters. Being blown by the Northeast monsoon with salinity for years and months, the basalt on the mountain falls down very often. So be careful of the falling stones!

Geological description of Cimei Township
Pillar basalts stand erect on the south, east and north coasts, forming a spectacular terrain landscape. For example, the sea cliff terrain of Great bay, Niumu level ground, Northeast bay and Northwest bay etc, the dike terrain of Amah Rock, and special Pillar basalt of Big Lion Scenic Area all grow on very well. The bottom of this pillar basalt is the mixed layer of yellowish-brown sandstone and slate-grey mudstone; there is quite thick tuff sandstone between them. For example, the Tingshi area is the horizontally mixed area of the stated deposited rocks. Moreover, around Niumu level ground and Lungcheng, we can see dikes of igneous rock above waters, folded layered tuff edge conglomerate, thick layered sandstones, mudstones and the wave erosion platform formed by water erosion.
