“Chimei Lighthouse”, commonly named “Nanfu Lighthouse”, is an international lighthouse which is located in the southmost of Pengfu. It was built in the last years of Ching Dynasty and has been repaired and enlarged for many times. In August of the 14th year of Zhaohe Period, the lighthouse has been constructed of ferroconcrete and to be a white, columned one with a height of 8.3 meters for the tower and 40.8 meters for the light. The lamps, fourth-class, steadfast and flashing, with the power of 800 candles, sparkling every three seconds, provided the visible distance of 9 sea miles; however nobody keep guard over it.
In the 53rd year of R.O.C. era, the lamps were fifth-class, with 2600 candlelights, sparkling every five minutes with the visible distance of 11.3 sea miles. In the 78th year, the lamps were renovated to red ones with 8000 candlelights and a visible distance of 19 sea miles and increased dormitories, warehouse and enclosures. Besides, there are people assigned to guard the lighthouse.

Chimei Lighthouse is located at the distance of 600 meters from Nanhu Port southeastward. It takes people six minutes from the port by vehicle. The tourists could take the tour bus, rent the scooters and take a taxi. The exterior of the lighthouse is covered with white paint which makes the lighthouse a noticeable objective. Generally the gate of the lighthouse is locked; however, it doesn’t mean that the tourists could not go for a visit. If you are lucky to meet with the personnel on duty, you could ask them for a inside visit sincerely. They usually permit if the tourist could promise not to effect their work and keep own security.
