In the north of the activity center with a distance of 500 or 600 meters in Nangang Village, there is a ˇ§Nan-yu Castleˇ¨ belonged to the Chen Family. This castle was composed of basalts. There is a stele embedded inside the arched basalt gate, the inscription on the stele is as the following:.
ˇ§The ancestor Chengjingong moved from Bazhao to Nanyu with his mother in the periods of Qianlong and lived in the hut located at Jianshanjiao. Then he married with Zhangyue at the age of thirty and had four children later. He split the chaste trees and chopped the thorn bushes, opened up wasteland and develop the locality and went through all the vicissitudes of his life for many years and turned the wilderness to be a fertile farmland from the north Houjingjiao to Nanpizaiwei southwards and from the east of Yuyuezaiqitou to Gonggoudong westwards.
Afterwards he went in for large-scale construction and built the castle. From now, Nuyue Castle is named. The original city walls are the height of three meters and the length of forty-five meters in the north wall, the height of two to three meters and the length of thirty meters in the east wall, and the height of two or three meters and the length of fifty meters in the south wall. Because of the worn down by the years without repair, the castle collapsed sometimes. Some prominent people in the clan advocated to rebuild the castle to maintain the ancestral property unfaltering and got the enthusiastic response from the clans and relatives. The rebuilt construction started during 7 to 9 a.m. of the 24th of February of the lunar calendar in the 77th year of R.O.C. Era. All outlays for repairing the castle walls and all territories are donated by the clans in the castle. Finally the castle has return to the former appearance. The clan set up this stele to record this history in January 22nd of 1990.ˇ¨
We could know that the Chen Family, one of the big surnames in Chimei, has moved from Wangan in Qianlong Dynasty and lived around Nanyu Castle for generations. After repairing , this castle has been one of the scenic spots in Chimei Township.
