¡§Chimei¡¨ was previously called ¡§Da-yu¡¨,
and was changed to ¡§Chimei¡¨ due to the affair of the Tomb of
the Seven Beauties.
According to the legend, during the Jia-Jing period in Ming
Dynasty, the bandits landed from the south coast of Chimei
while all the men of this island went fishing on the sea and
only the old and weak, the women and children left in the
island. There were seven beautiful young ladies who were
farming around the mountain drowning themselves into the
well when they were disturbed by intruders. The villagers
later filled the well and built a tombstone on it.
After a couple of time, there are seven catalpa bungel trees
mysteriously sprout up around the tomb. All the villagers
thought that these seven trees are the embodiment of the
seven beauties. So, the build the wall with the basalt
around the tomb to protect it from the attack of the
northeast trades.
The stele stone was built by the village head named
Zheng-mian under the orders of the government in the 14th
year of R.O.C. Era. On the back of the stele is an
inscription related the origin of this tomb. In the 42 year
of R.O.C. Era, there was another stele standing on the left
side carved with the ¡§Song for Seven Beauties.¡¨ The song and
the narration were both composed by General Hezhihao; the
calligraphy was from Ms. Zhangmojun.
Chinese TV Station has ever created and broadcasted a
Taiwanese soap opera concerned about the chaste affair of
Seven Beauties. The catalpa bungel trees in the Tomb of
Seven Beauties aged over 400 years is the oldest and
precious tree in Pengfu. |

The Tomb of the Seven Beauties
is located at the distance of 500 meters from
Nanhu Port southeastward. It takes people five minutes from
the port by vehicle. The tourists could take the tour bus,
rent the scooters and take a taxi. The seven »ªá trees are
located around the tomb with a periphery built by basalt.
Please do not break of the twigs of the seven »ªá¾ð.
Allegedly, people will have a stomachache if plucking the
trees. Besides the two steles standing in front of the
tombs, there are two steles standing behind the tomb (do not
forget these two). In the Westside of the tomb is ¡§Xiangqiu
Garden¡¨, and the ¡§Deity Cave¡¨ is behind the tomb at the
distance of 100 meters. The tourists could also take a
visit. |
