PengHu is the first stop for Han People¡¦s
reclamation in Taiwan Area. Residents in PengHu preserve
completed traditional customs and life styles of Han People
due to off-shore location and inconvenient traffic before
Year 34th of ROC, where appears the perfect base for
folklore research. With the folklore, PengHu People are
encouraged to fight with evils and bad environments,
promoting to brave struggling from fears of devils. They
all believe gods¡¦ blessings to expel any dangers and to give
them encourages on tough fishing and working far away from
home country. Incomes from hard working are saved for home
town construction and for support continuous development.
To understand religious ideas of PengHu People, ceremony
will be the important way. The Book is a survey report for
civil ceremonies and application documents, and includes two
parts, such as temple and household praying ceremonies. The
temple ceremonies include building temple, temple
settlement, and yearly festivals (receiving god, god
birthday, praying for safety, ¡¥Tai Suei¡¦ settlement, regular
awards to military on the Day first and the Day 15th,
Lantern Festival, ¡¥JhenFu¡¦, ¡¥enhance luck¡¦, ¡¥releasing souls
in mid July¡¦, ¡¥thanks god for safety¡¦, ¡¥gratitude to Tai
Suei¡¦, take ¡¥Ying¡¦ ¡¥Tou¡¦, Wellfare, and God¡¦s birthday ).
King, MaZu, and ChengHuang are most popular beliefs in
PengHu. Special ceremonies are ¡¥LuanTang¡¦ activity,
erecting flag pole, BaoTa settlement, praying for rain,
gratitude to rains, enhance wealth and luck, and as a god
son. Household ceremonies cover praying for safety and
disaster expelled, house settlement, gratitude to flower
sisters, ChuanJiao, ¡¥Syu An¡¦ and ¡¥Sie An¡¦, ¡¥paying respects
to ancestors¡¦, ¡¥funeral¡¦, and ¡¥offerings to ghosts in
hell¡¦. Application documents include (1) used by ceremony
masters and witches : making wishes, for funeral,
description, reporting, informing, for request, expression,
notes, hand scripts, for invitation, for farewell, and
others (for leaving, for long life, contact, and advices),
and (2) used by shaman : expression, reporting, ¡¥CingCih¡¦, ¡¥FuLing¡¦,
¡¥Guan¡¦, ¡¥Da¡¦, ¡¥Bang¡¦ (for goods), and ¡¥Jhai Jhang¡¦. The
Book explores all islands in PengHu, including even distant
WangAn and Hua Yu, crosses time spans from Ching Dynasty,
Japanese governance, to post war era. Most ceremonies are
hosted by ceremony masters and witches, except for ¡¥JianJiao¡¦,
¡¥HeWun¡¦, ¡¥temple settlement¡¦, and ¡¥KoTe¡¦ ceremonies hosted
by shaman. Some Buddha ceremonies in temples through Buddha
process, are not included in the Book. |
