The abundant production
places of Penghu¡¦s quality Wenshih are Wangan Island
and Chiangchuao Islet. During Japanese-occupied
period (Minchih 42, 1909), a Japanese §Ó¤Óºq¤§§U found a
great amount of quality Wenshih in Wangan and
Chiangchuao Islet, and established a processing
factory in Wangan recruiting local teenagers to
learn the skills. It was the beginning of the
industrialization of Penghu Wenshih. At the same
time, Japanese also published thesis about the
academic study of Wenshih¡¦s geology and minerals
making Penghu Wenshih more widely acceptable to the
general public and establishing the status on
Penghu¡¦s industries. The Wenshih processing industry
of Wangan started from the Japanese-occupied period.
To fulfill Japanese needs, it was made to¡uTaichih¡v,
hair stick, ring, ¡BBuddhist
balls¡Bcuff-links¡Bpresser¡Binkstone and desk
decoration etc. After the World War ¢º started,
Wenshih processing industry was stopped and
recovered from R.O.C 40s. Under the guidance and
assistance of government combined with the efforts
of companies, it has more diversified exploitation.
R. O. C. 50s was the peak of Wenshih industry, but
the resource was drying up gradually because of
nearly a century of exploitation. Moreover, because
of the wake up of environmental consciousness in
recently years, Wenshih industy is decreasing
gradually. Right now, Wangan Island has two display
and exhibition halls that do not maintain a regular
operation. But there are many Chiangchunao people
(mostly come from Wenshih family) who open special
product stores in Magong and display a quite amount
of quality Wenshih originally produced in Wangan and
Chiangchunao Islet. |
