description¡G |
|
The coasts around Baisha Islands are
tortuous and diverse. The cliff, the reef, the clean sand beach
and the green sea interlocked makes Pengfu island become a very
important point when the tourists go sightseeing around the
islands. Especially, the cliff located in Baishayu, Niaoyu,
Yuanbeiyu islands is a landform of columned basalt with various
joints, which is of great momentum, not only a natural prodigy
of uncanny workmanship, a outdoor research place for geologists
but also a potential representative location of a world heritage
reported by the Committee of Culture Construction. Due to the
plentiful groundwater, the agriculture is prosperous in Pengfu.
The output of local Jiabao melons and western muskmelons is the
first-rate in Pengfu County. Besides the human historical
hertiage of Tongliang great banyan and castle relics, there are
also plenty of platforms made by marine abrasion due to
continuously scouring of arousing waves caused by piercingly
cold northeast trades all the year round in Baisha islands. Gupo,
Quzhuayu are famous for the natural edible seaweed. The broad
reefy coast of Baisha is pregnant with abundant marine
ecologies; as a result, it becomes a heaven for migratory birds
in transit to hunt and a best place for common people to
understand the tide curve, to collect spiral shells and to pick
up the shellfish. |

historical description¡G |
|
Most Baisha villagers migrated from
Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and Jinmen in Ming and Ching Dynasty and
gradually aggregated to be a village, In the first beginning,
the villagers mainly fished on the sea and cultivated when they
were unoccupied. Pengfu has been brought under the control of
the count in Yuan Dynasty, Baisha was subordinated to Pengfu.
Till Ching Dynasty, Baisha started to establish Ao (kind of an
office) to deal with government affairs. After the Sino-Japanese
War of 1894-4895,Taiwan and Pengfu had ceded to Japan
Government. Japan Government continued using Ao-she to manage
all the affairs. The five-ao of Baishayuan merged into
Dingshanao in 1896 and renamed to be Dachikan in 1897. After
that, the administration organization has been adjusted for
several times. During the second to the sixth year of R.O.C.,
Dachikan was established Waton, Chikan and Zhenhai and directly
under Pengfu Hall. In the 9th year of R.O.C., the government
reform the official system. Pengfu Hall switched to be a
prefecture, the areas under the prefecture were united to be a
village. In the 34th year of R.O.C., Taiwan and Pengfu has
returned back to our own government. Due to the area of Pengfu¡¦s
territory was too small, the government only established Wangan
Area to have command over Wangan and Dayu. Villages and Towns
are under the control of Area, Dingshanzhuang has renamed to be
Baisha Township from then. |
