Hsieh
was smart when he was a kid and once studied Han culture with
his granduncle, Chen Po Yun for 2 years. During his youth, he
was a pharmacy pupil in Tainan, came to Xiamen to study
traditional Chinese medicine in the age of 18, and went to study
further in Keio University of Japan 3 years later. He came back
to Xiamen after Shino-Japanese war and served as the head of
Taiwanese compatriot promoting group. After restoration he
served as the head of Huwei District, Mayor of Chiayi City and
Executive Secretary of Tainan County government. At the age of
34, he was elected as a member of the 1st Constituent
Assembly, and as the first elected mayor of Kaohsiung when he
was 42. He renewed his term of office once then served as a
committee member of Province Government after the expiration of
his tenure. He once went to Nanjing for participating the
Constituent Assembly, also represented Taiwan to attend the
Worldwide Mayor Conference in Tokyo, Japan. Through his life, he
was busy on the run and also well known between Taiwan and
Penghu. |
