In traditional belief, July is a ghost month, when the gate opens in the hell and the dead come back to the world, and people have to prepare offerings to ghosts for family safety, called as ˇ§Good Brothersˇ¨.  From July 1st to the end of July, bowls of food and paper made ghost money have to be offered to them.  And, on Mid-July, temples in places hold great festivals to pray for releasing souls of those wandering ghosts, with origins from food offering in Ullambana Ceremony of Buddha, a love-rich action.  Mid-July is an important day for general families for ancestor worship, therefore, there is a folk-say that greatness of ancestors can be told on Mid-July, that is on the day the decedents will do their best to prepare delicious and various foods to feed their dead family, revealing respects and memory to ancestors.
