In Chinese legends, on July 7th Shepherd and
Weaver Lady will have their yearly meeting, and it drizzles
when they meet each other in gloaming. Weaver Lady, also
called as Seventh Lady, is a diligent and kind fairy in the
heaven and the seventh daughter of Heaven God, however, was
punished to separate from her husband by God due to
abandoning her weaving in loves after married with
Shepherd. Both have a couple of kids, and people believe
Weaver Lady love and protect children as their guard
angle. On each July 7th, kids are asked to wash
faces with offered water to Weaver Lady in order to have
good looking and smartness, and hang dedicated coin rings to
have Ladyˇ¦s blessing. According to tradition, white
rice-made round cakes after offerings can be ate with syrup,
so called as ˇ§July-7th Cakeˇ¨. In recent years,
making July-7th Cake is declining, but the pray
to Weaver Lady keeps popular. |

In gloaming of July 7th when
starts show in the east, women set a short table completed
with ˇ§July 7th Cakeˇ¨, powder and make up, fruits,
candles and paper money, water and towel, and flowers
offered to Weaver Lady who is ready for dress up to meet her
husband. After incensing and burning paper money, all
family members wash faces with offered water and hang
offered powders or make up high or on windows. Kids will be
hung with blessing ancient coins bound with red cotton for
Ladyˇ¦s protection. |
