Tsai Chih Chan was born in Magong Changan Neighborhood and was one of the dying for chastity people in Penghu. She had a graceful temper, and was intelligent by natural endowments. From her childhood, she was different from other children and did not like playing. She was taught by scholar Chen Hsi Ju at the age of 9. She studied poetry and literature and also liked painting and calligraphy. She especially devoted herself to Buddhism through all her life, setting up family halls for worshipping Buddha, renovating Buddhist temples and expounding the texts of Buddhism to pass on Buddha dharma. She came back to Magong and served as the abbot of Chenyuan Hall.
