Because the scope of Wenao
Templewas tiny and narrow and the position of Magong was
getting more and more important, The Qianlong Court
re-constructed the Chenghuang Temple in Magong in 1779.
In 1889, the Ching Court moved Pengfu Government to
Magong City (Makung City now), which made Magong
Chenghuang Temple with a government office formally. The
Chinese-France War involved Pengfu in 1885. In that
February, France Army invaded Pengfu. It is said that
Chenghuang Deity makes his presence felt to bless and
protect the residents and the soldiers in Pengfu.
Afterwards, Chenghuang Temple and Tainho Temple obtained
the worshipped tablets from Ching Emperor. Furthermore,
the Ching Emperor bestowed “ Lingying Marquls” on
Chenghuang Temple. The temple, located at the east side
of Makung City Government with numerous flowers, which
is not only a temple for official worship but also a
temple with the efficacy of teaching and the citizenry. |

The both sides of the eaves
and the porch in the front palace of the temple were
built by laying basalts and granites with
stone-carvings, which possessed the style of Japanese
Occupation. The back eaves girdle was with rolling shed
and worshipping Palace and it also linked with the right
and left porches. In front of the main palace is a
single-open, multi-eaves worshipping palace, which links
the back palace. The inner of the temple is deep and
gloomy which makes people feel esteemed. The Chenghuang
in Magong Castle located north and faced south
westwards, is a unity-yard construction of temple with
five entrances of three paths and two porches, which
includes the main gate, the worshipping palace, the main
palace and the wing-rooms on both sides. The main
construction of this temple is based on traditional wood
construction and load-bearing walls. The beauty of the
construction is in the performance of stones. The stone
pillars, the stone script, the stone carvings of animals
and plants and the historic figures are all the
characteristics of Chenghuang Temple. |
