In
PengHu, ChiGuei is one of important things in Lantern
Festival. According to TongPan (a government position)
Hu, JianWei (Belief Record about PengHu), ¡¥for Lantern
Festival, all families get up and hang lanterns at the
door and halls at night of Jan. 13rd, and prepare
offerings for heaven, land, and water
gods at night of Jan. 15th. All family
members eat and drink, and play drums and gongs. Some
dress up and have trips to other places. In temples
lanterns are hang high, and flower and people figures
are set. Men and women go outdoors for lantern
watching. Women looking forward boys will pray to gods
and take a flower or a boy figure back home. If a boy
is born, women will prepare flowers and figures to offer
to god next year¡¦¡]Hu,

the record in early years, festivity and multiple
customs on Lantern Festival in PengHu can be observed.
Flowers were the beg object in early days, but now Guei
(turtle) becomes the target to symbol safety, health,
and wealth. MaGong City becomes busy in Lantern
Festival, one of important traditional
festivals, and temples have their own characters, such
as the large rice Guei in MaGong TienHou Temple, and
¡¥ShanSuei¡¦ (mountain and water) golden Guei in SuoGang
(lock harbor), and fruit dragon in HaiLing Palace, the
importance visiting place for residents or tourists.

On
Lantern Festival, ChiGuei is an important. Generally,
beggar will describe his beg offering to the temple,
incense and pray in front of god with reporting name,
address, purpose, and next-year return, and toss for Yin
and Yang combination to win beg objects (some temples
required three times ) . Beggar may change wishes or
add returns, then toss till win (if fail for three
times, it means ¡§not allowing¡¦). The temple will
re-set the Guei to head outside and plug incenses on it,
and the beggar may take it home or stay it in temple
until the last night of festival periods.

that day, the temples set the safety bridge which is
cleaned by a witch, to allow people
pass and catch safety eggs.
