中文摘要: 依據化石根痕 (fossil rootlets) 、土壤構造 (soil structures) 及土壤化育層 (soil horizons) 等特徵 , 可判斷澎湖部分玄武岩層間的不整合面 ( 晚中新世時期 ,10Ma) 為古土壤。又依據黏粒含量、土壤顏色及礦物組成 , 可將這些「層間土壤」區分為高度化育型古土壤 ( 竹灣、小門嶼剖面 ) 及弱度化育型古土壤 ( 虎井東山、西嶼牛心山剖面 ) 。由古土壤中的礦物組成及其垂直分布 , 可推測原風化母質應為沈積物質而非玄武岩。高度化育型古土壤因深受當時氣候影響 ( 富含高嶺石族和赤鐵礦 ), 故可以作為未來研究古氣候的指標剖面。

英文摘要: According to the pedogenic features of the fossil rootlets, soil structures, and soil horizons, we could identify that the disconformities at late Miocene (10Ma) in the basalt layers of the Penghu Islands are paleosols. By clay contents, soil colors, and mineral compositions, we could differentiate these paleosols into two types: high developed (e.g. Chu Wan and Shiao-Men Yu profiles) and weakly-developed (e.g. Hu-Ching Yu and Niu-Hsin Shan profiles) paleosols. From the mineral composition and vertical distribution of minerals in the paleosols, the weathering parent materials of these paleosols were characterized as sedimentary materials rather than basalts. The high-developed paleosols (rich in kaolins and hematites) were profoundly influenced by the Late-Miocene climates. Thus, they could be indicator profiles of paleoclimate.
